Cemetery Tour

Tales of civil war, suicide, celery, snakes, and other surprising scenarios will be center stage at The Oviedo Preservation Project's Fourth Annual Cemetery Tour. This event will take place from 6:30 to 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday, Oct. 20 at the Oviedo Cemetery (across from Oviedo High School on S.R. 426), and your $2 donation is appreciated, though not mandatory.

The public is welcome to join us for an hour-long visit with some of Oviedo's founders. We'll be touring the cemetery under the guidance of historical figures who've come to life for the evening to introduce us to their dearly departed friends. Please join us to hear stories from actors in costume who will tell about themselves and about what Oviedo was like when they were alive. For more information, contact Megan at 407-365-1433 or megan@oviedotraditions.com.

FAQ

  • Is there a charge? There will be no "ticket taker," but your $2 donation dropped in the bins located around the tour is very much appreciated.
  • Is the tour scary? Not exactly. It's based on real live history, and there were wars and disease and things like that.
  • Should we wear costumes? Not unless you're an actor in the tour! Please let us know if you'd like to get involved!
  • Will it be dark? At the end, yes. You may want to bring a flashlight for the last portion of the tour. Light is important for a majority of the tour so you can learn more about the cemetery and its features - that's why we start when you can still see where you're going.
  • Can kids come? Absolutely! The tour is crafted with an eye toward entertaining kids as young as 2. We go to great lengths to make history come alive so it won't be painfully boring for anyone who comes. In fact, the cemetery tour makes history downright engaging!
  • Where is it? Across from Oviedo High School (off 426) west of downtown Oviedo.
